Brews and Views in the Smokies: Gatlinburg Brewing Company Awaits

Our hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park left us ready to unwind. With sore legs and happy hearts, we hopped in the car and headed for Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Our mission? To find a local brewery and enjoy a refreshing post-hike drink.

If you are not familiar with Gatlinburg, it is a very touristy spot in the mountains with places like Ripley’s, bars, restaurants, a tropical bird place, candy shops, souvenir shops, etc. When we went, it was right during spring break season. Gatlinburg was absolutely packed when we visited. There is a main strip running through Gatlinburg. Shops and tourist stops line both sides. When we were there, people were cruising the strip back and forth as well. If you can handle the crowds, at the very end of the strip is a little oasis: Gatlinburg Brewing Company.

Gatlinburg Brewing Company is a brewery with a full service bar and also serves food. One thing I loved about the brewery is that it has tons of windows that look down on the strip. Gatlinburg Brewing is great for watching the town’s shenanigans while sipping a beer or two.

I had the Gattylight beer. It was light and refreshing, which was needed after all the time spent in the car and hiking a half mile uphill. I also branched out and tried a seltzer. This one was the Tutti Fruitti seltzer, which the bartender told me tasted exactly like Fruit Stripe gum – she was correct. I am not sure how they made a seltzer taste like that gum, but it was pretty spot on! I don’t normally do seltzers, but having this one was pretty good! Jesse decided to do a flight. The flight included Gattylight, the Breakfast Juice, the Fog Machine IPA, and the Epipen peanut butter stout. Of course the Gattylight was really good, but the Epipen peanut butter stout was Jesse’s favorite of the flight. It was probably my favorite beer, too, and I didn’t even order it that evening.

We also got a jalapeno cheese bread while at the brewery. It was so good! Gatlinburg Brewing Company has friendly staff and is family friendly as well. If you plan on visiting, keep your furry friends at home because this brewery is completely inside. Gatlinburg Brewing Company’s location on the strip is perfect – not too loud, not too crazy, but still in the action. We definitely recommend going, and we will visit again on our next Smoky Mountains trip!
