Monkey Town Brewing Dayton
After a long day of hiking and exploring Fall Creek Falls State Park, we decided we decided to go to a familiar brewery. We decided to go to Monkey Town Brewing.
Now you might be thinking, “Haven’t we already gone here?” Yes, we have, but we decided to go to the original Dayton location. We had to travel a good distance for this one (38 miles), but it was a Sunday and not as many places were open. The Dayton location was also on the way back home (good to keep in mind if you are needing to get back on I-75 to get home).
Dayton, Tennessee, is the location of the Scopes Trial
Even though we had already visited the Chattanooga location, the Dayton one is special because it is the original Monkey Town Brewing Company location. Dayton, Tennessee, is the location of the Scopes Trial, where a high school science teacher was accused of teaching about evolution, which went against 1920s Tennessee law. If you are a history geek like me, going to the location and seeing the courthouse where this landmark case took place is very exciting! Monkey Town Brewing is located in historic downtown Dayton. The old courthouse where the trial took place has statues of Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan, the two opposing lawyers in the case. So cool!
This Monkey Town Brewing location has a full bar and a diverse tap list
Anyway, back to the brewery! This Monkey Town location has a full bar and a diverse tap list. While we were there, 17 different beers were on tap, including spurts, stouts, a shandy, IPAs, ambers, ales, and a seltzer. I had the Valley Girl Juice Cleanse key lime sour and the Hefelumps & Woozles American wheat ale. It was almost a tie as to which one I liked more – they were both really good! However, it is hard for me to pick anything over a sour, especially a key lime one. Jesse had the Black Magic American oatmeal stout and the Really Packs a Pancho Mexican lager. His favorite was the Black Magic oatmeal stout because it was very smooth and refreshing!
If you are hungry, Monkey Town also has a great menu. Both times we have visited, we haven’t been disappointed with what we ordered. This location of Monkey Town also had a pool table room and an outside area. The staff is friendly and there are drink choices for everyone. Monkey Town Brewing is located in the cute downtown of Dayton. If you are in the area, you won’t regret stopping by!
Happy Trails,
Katie and Jesse
