Georgia Breweries

Talking Rock Brewery

Talking Rock Brewery is in a train car. Yes! A real train car!

Thirsty after our hike at Amicalola Falls, we craved our usual post-adventure beer. Given the rural charm of the North Georgia mountains, reaching a brewery meant a short drive. Twenty-two and a half miles later, we found ourselves in Talking Rock, a quaint mountain town in Pickens County, home to the inviting Talking Rock Brewery.

Talking Rock Brewery is on Georgia Highway 136, which runs through the town of Talking Rock. There is not much to Talking Rock, however this brewery brings so much to the little town! Talking Rock Brewery has a great selection of beers and seltzers. They are in the process of building a restaurant next door. Talking Rock Brewery also hosts weekly events, such as trivia, open mic nights, and live music – if you are going to visit, check their Instagram or their website for event details. So much is going on here! But I haven’t even gotten to the best part yet: Talking Rock Brewery is in a train car. Yes! A real train car!

Once you park in front of the brewery, go inside the blue train car. Inside, there is a small bar counter and seats and tables along both sides of the train car. When we were there, eight beers were on tap. They also had five seltzer flavors available as well.

Sometimes breweries go crazy with weird flavors and miss the mark, but Talking Rock beer is just downright tasty.

I ordered the Behind the Schoolhouse Sour (4.4% ABV) and the Caboose Georgia Red Ale (5.7% ABV). Jesse ordered the spicy pineapple Steam Engine Seltzer (5% ABV), the Stout Nitro Stout (4.7% ABV), and the sour as well. Jesse’s favorite was the nitro stout. My favorite was the Caboose Georgia Red! I’ve had reds in the past and I’ve been disappointed. They are always too bitter for me. I asked the bartender Chris what his favorite was, and he said the red, so I gave it a shot. It is 100% the best red I’ve had because it had a great coffee flavor! Now I know not to order another red from anywhere else – I will just compare it to Talking Rock’s and be disappointed!

Talking Rock Brewery is family and pet friendly. If you want to sit outside, there is a large, shaded patio. We were also told that during the winter, plastic siding goes up around the patio, so there is outdoor seating year-round.

Every time we visit a brewery, we find all the positives. Every brewery we’ve visited has something different to offer. Whether it is a wide selection of beers or a great food menu. But this little brewery has everything you could want – solid beer, fun events, and incredibly nice staff and customers. To top it all off, the train car experience is just so cool! This little mountain gem is perfect – and we absolutely cannot wait to visit again in the future!

Happy Trails,
Katie & Jesse
